A house we carry

Molteni&C

In 1968 the designer Luca Meda moved Molteni&C from a classical repertoire to modern design made for series production on German machinery. That was the moment a Brianza cabinetmaking workshop turned into a furniture manufacturer, and it has stayed one.

Angelo Molteni and his wife Giuseppina had opened that workshop in Giussano in 1934. By 1947 it employed more than sixty craftsmen. The Contract division was set up in the 1970s to work with architects, the kitchen maker Dada was acquired in 1979, and Aldo Rossi collaborated with the company through the 1980s, notably on the refit of the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa. With Luca Meda he also designed the Piroscafo bookcase.

The expertise is in panels, veneers and modular systems: wall storage, walk-in wardrobes, bookcases. Since 2010 an exclusive agreement with the Gio Ponti Archives and the designer's heirs has allowed a Heritage collection of reissues, and its D.154.2 armchair received the 2024 Compasso d'Oro alla carriera. Vincent Van Duysen has been art director since 2016.

Artopia carries Molteni&C in Geneva. The storage systems are drawn to the millimetre, so this is the kind of project that starts from the room plan rather than the catalogue.
