Unopiù

The name comes from a simple idea: “una stanza in più”, one more room. Unopiù was founded in 1978 at Soriano nel Cimino, in the Tuscia north of Rome, and has never made anything but outdoor furniture.

The range goes well beyond furniture. Alongside sofas, tables and sun loungers, the company builds pergolas, arbours, gazebos, garden greenhouses, timber carports and trellis panels, carrying on from its first wooden pieces of 1982. That is a practical difference: you can order the structure and what sits underneath it from the same supplier.

The materials are grade A FSC-certified teak from controlled Indonesian plantations, aluminium, galvanised wrought iron, and WaProLace, a synthetic fibre the company patented in 2006, hand-woven and rated against UV, rain, salt, chlorine and mould. The free-standing Amanda hammock, launched in 1988, is still the product that identifies the brand. The Davos modular sofas of 2024 are by Matteo Nunziati.

Artopia carries Unopiù in Geneva. Chlorine and salt appear explicitly in the fibre specification, which is worth checking when the terrace runs alongside a pool.
